Twelve years ago, Carly had no experience in insurance, no set plan for her next career move, and had just become a first-time mum. Fast forward to today, and she’s now Administration Manager at Coversure Rugby, helping to lead a thriving brokerage, mentoring new staff and showing just what’s possible for women in insurance.
From packing boxes to balancing books
Carly’s journey began far from the world of policies and premiums. After starting in retail, she moved into a warehouse role where she worked for over a decade. Her drive and curiosity led her from picking and packing, to a management role in the office, until the business eventually closed.
Carly used the redundancy as an opportunity to focus on motherhood. When she felt ready to return to work, a conversation with a friend led her to Coversure. “A friend told me that Coversure was looking for an Admin Assistant. I got in touch the same day and the rest is history,” she recalls.
Growing with the business
When Carly joined Coversure Rugby, it was a small operation – just two directors and herself. As the brokerage grew, so did she. Today, Carly oversees the admin side of the business and plays a key part in day-to-day operations alongside the directors. She’s also helped train the majority of new hires on the admin and finance side, realising through the process that she’s more confident, and more capable, than she ever gave herself credit for.
There wasn’t a single moment where I suddenly ‘levelled up.’ It was a natural progression. I’ve taken on more over the years including compliance, bookkeeping and social media. It’s an honour to be able to grow with the business.

Finding that work-life balance and setting an example
With three children at home, Carly works school hours only – a balance that works brilliantly for her, and one that Coversure has always supported. “Being a present and involved parent has always been my priority. Coversure’s flexibility has allowed me to have a career without compromising on that.”
She hopes her children see the value in hard work – not from viral videos, but from showing up, doing a job you enjoy, and earning the good things in life. “Social media can sometimes make us feel like we’re not good enough. I want my kids to know that working a normal job and working hard is something to be proud of.”
Women in insurance
While Carly has never personally faced gender-related challenges at Coversure, she recognises the broader need for more women in the industry, particularly in leadership.
“Women bring empathy, balance and communication skills that help build real relationships. We absolutely belong here.”
Carly’s advice to women considering a career in insurance
“Go for it. Don’t hold back. You have just as much right to be in this industry as anyone else – and it’s not as scary as it seems.”
If you’re thinking about leading a brokerage one day, Carly’s advice is to “Speak up. We don’t do that enough. You’re more ready than you think.”
